G Plan came to prominence in a golden era of British Design, that emerged and developed from the 1951 Festival of Britain. This era of 'Mid Century Modern' design is now inspiring a whole generation of young designers once more, and I cannot tell you how exciting it has been to be able to trawl the G Plan archive with a brief to re-interpret the brands rich history for a new generation of 'modernists'. Being able to sample and manufacture in the UK, develop custom prints, work with high quality materials, and in its first season for the collection to be sold in John Lewis, has been a bit of a dream come true.
‘The World’s Most Comfortable Chair’. To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the G Plan brand, the iconic chair known as ‘The World’s Most Comfortable Chair’ is being reintroduced. The chair was originally launched in 1962 as the 6250 model and the new version for 2013 will be known as ‘The Sixty Two’. All models in the G Plan Vintage range are named after the introduction year of the model that inspired them.
