Heading up a team including Mae Architects, we have been working alongside Freebridge Community Housing and those living and working in the large, 319-home estate on the £30million regeneration, to forge a thriving community fit for 21st Century life. Since work began on Hillington Square in 2010, 302 flats have been upgraded with new kitchens and bathrooms, and a further 17 demolished to make way for a complete remodel of the external layout. This included the re-introduction of streets and removal of privacy-invading passageways and surplus garages. Integrating Hillington Square with the rest of King’s Lynn and giving the site a more open, welcoming atmosphere. Communal gardens, an equipped play area and raised beds for vegetable plots have formed part of the landscaping re-design.
